Health Insurance - Why Women Pay A Lot More And How To Pay Far Less

By Chimezirim Chinecherem Odimba

Women, as a group, get far better deals on auto and life insurance. But once it comes to health insurance, a woman will attract higher rates than a male counterpart. Why is this so and what can a woman do to pay far less?

First, let's explain why this is so...

It's been proven that the female of every species tend to require more health care than their male counterparts. And it does make sense for the human race for the following reasons...

1. The female gender goes through monthly circles that take a toll on them. The degree to which this affects them defers from lady to lady. However, we all know that the loss of blood is part of the whole process. Considering that this happens every month with the attendant psychological implications for some ladies, they should require more health care.

2. Pregnancy. We are NOT referring to the special care a woman needs when she's pregnant we are referring to its toll on the woman's health long after delivery. And, if you consider that a good number of women have several pregnancies in their life time, you'll see it makes sense that their bodies require more health care attention.

Now, we must understand that insurance companies, like every other business out there, are out to make a profit. Miss this important fact and you'll wonder why a lot of things are the way they are.

To this end, they have studied trends of various profiles and can comfortably project how many insureds within a profile would make a claim within a given time.

If for example, 1 out of every 1,000 insureds within a profile makes a claim of $10,000 within a year, they will still be profitable if each person in that group pays $200. This simply means that the higher the number of claims and the amount claimed per profile, the higher their rates will be.

As a profile, the female gender have shown that they make more health insurance claims (and higher amounts) than men. This invariably means that insurance companies will by default give you higher rates than a man of the same profile.

So how do you still attract cheaper rates as a woman?

Top among the many things you have to do are the following...

1. Quit alcohol, smoking and the use of tobacco in any form.

2. Quit dangerous games and sports.

3. Quit jobs that expose you to hazards.

4. Get in shape. Apart from the fact that you'll look better, your rates will also be more manageable.

5. Exercise regularly.

6. Be happy. Happy people fall ill less often. In fact there are health conditions that are caused by unresolved resentment, bitterness and worry.

7. Get and compare quotes from a wide range of insurers. Different insurers have different loss and claims histories. Furthermore, they also have different weightings for the different factors that are used to determine your rates.

Remember there are over 2,000 insurance carriers in the US alone. This means that you might have 2,000 different rates for your profile. Some will bill you more; some less.

Will you pay more or less? It depends on how many quotes you get and how thoroughly you compare them.

Here are great pages for health insurance quotes...

The Most Important Health Tips For Breast Cancer Patients

By R. Sharp

If you are someone you know is going through breast cancer, you know what an emotionally and physically trying time it is. Many forms of cancer treatment only add to the discomfort that the breast cancer patient experiences. Radiation treatments, for example, can cause a great deal of fatigue and it can take up to two months for your normal levels of energy to return. Therefore, it is important to follow a few health tips in order to minimize these side effects, as well as to help you get better sooner.

One of the most important things you can do for yourself while fighting breast cancer is to get plenty of rest. Do your best to get a full nights’ sleep. And, if you feel tired during the day, take the time to sleep or rest to allow your body time to recover.

Another thing you can do is eat a healthy diet. The healthier your body is, the better prepared it will be to fight the cancer and to recover from the treatment. Be sure to include plenty of protein in your diet because the amino acids found in protein are used by your body to help repair damage.

Sometimes, eating can be a difficult task if you are undergoing treatments for breast cancer. Surgery, chemotherapy, radiation, and medications can adversely affect your appetite and digestive system. You might experience nausea, vomiting, changes in taste and smell, difficulty swallowing and chewing, constipation, and pain. If you are experiencing these problems, you need to take steps to increase your appetite and to make eating easier.

Firstly, try to make mealtime enjoyable by eating with friends and family or making eating as comfortable as possible. To add variety for your taste buds and to make eating more enjoyable, try new foods or new recipes. If you engage in mild exercise ½ hour before you eat, it can also help increase your appetite. Of course, you should check with your doctor before starting any type of exercise routine. Anti-nausea medicine can also be helpful if you are vomiting or experiencing nausea.

It is also helpful if you prepare meals ahead of time while you are feeling better and freeze them. These meals can be easily reheated when you are not feeling well. You should also keep small snacks on hand to munch on when you are feeling good enough to eat. In fact, it is best to eat small meals or snacks frequently throughout the day than to eat large meals. All foods you purchase should be easy to prepare or should be ready to eat. You should also look for foods that are high in calories and protein in order to help keep your weight on. Even the fluids you consume should be high in calories and protein. If you are having a hard time chewing and swallowing, you should puree your foods or purchase foods that are easy to swallow, such as applesauce, soup, baby food, pudding, and yogurt.

Additionally, there are a number of, herbs and vitamins which promote breast health.

The Wonderful Benefits Derived From Yoga For Women

By Tim Gorman Platinum Quality Author

Because women have also had a tendency to be more emotional than men, and emotional pressure and stress can have a profound effect on a woman's health. It's been proven many times that emotional distress can translate into various illnesses or physical weakness. Factor such as hormonal change can also have an affect on a woman's health. For this reason many women find yoga is an excellent solution to these health issues that to some extent are unavoidable.

As a woman progresses through her life, different issues can arise. Many women suffer extensively from premenstrual syndrome and menstrual cramps. Menopause incorporates substantial hormonal changes, and can often lead to increased levels of stress for women. Pregnancy is another major change in a woman's life, bringing with it change and stress to the body. During pregnancy it's also possible that health problems of the mother can be reflected in the health of the baby, so naturally the mother wants to be as healthy as possible for the whole pregnancy. Yoga is a great solution to these varied issues, making it easier for women to deal with these health obstacles through their lives.

It's quite common for women to prepare for the last months of pregnancy and labor using yoga. Every mother wants to deliver her baby without any type of complication, and being fit and healthy is a big part of helping that to happen. Certain yoga poses, including the cat pose and the fish yoga pose, are excellent for assisting the mother to develop both the physical strength and mental focus required for labor. Yoga has also been shown to reduce the effects of other pregnancy issues, including morning sickness. Many yoga stretches help to relax and strengthen the pelvic muscles, which makes them function more effectively during birth. And yoga breathing techniques can be used during birth to help the mother focus on the delivery rather than any pain involved in giving birth.

Having a young baby can be very tiring, so women in the postnatal period often turn to yoga to improve their energy levels and vitality. Using the fish yoga pose is great for increasing the processing of oxygen and improving relaxation. The back and neck muscles are also strengthened in this pose, and it has the added benefit of improving nervous system responses. If you're looking to spend a period of time in meditation, then the hero yoga pose is one of the best.

Another popular yoga pose is the cat pose, regardless of age or physical condition. This is because it's particularly good for increasing the flexibility of the spinal column, as well as relaxing the lower back muscles. These muscles carry the weight of the whole upper body when you're standing for long periods of time. Interestingly, the specific position used in the cat pose helps to increase kidney blood irrigation. The cat pose is often followed by the headstand, which can be difficult to master but also produces great results. Reversing gravity in the body allows many parts to rest in a way they normally never do. It's also great for relieving lower back muscle pressure and back pain.

Proven Ways to Help Release Those Bottled Up Emotions

By Marco Fratelli

It is human nature to adopt either "fight" or "flight" in response to emotionally charged situations such as heated arguments. Depending on your personality you may either stand your ground to defend yourself or you may have some restraint and leave to avoid a bigger scene. Some people find themselves in front of a more dominant individual who is often taller, louder and very articulate that they are forced to just stand and "take it". These are the people who leave with their side of the story unheard and their emotions bottled up inside them, festering and frequently manifesting physically into an illness.

Bottling up your emotions is not healthy. We all know people who do this from time to time. They end up bitter and filled with hatred that it sometimes consumes them and makes them not very pleasant people to be around. Everybody needs to be heard, consoled or acknowledged at some point. When this is not given, it can be harmful to your self esteem and can lead to depression.

There is a very simple and effective way to release those bottled up emotions that is often overlooked or dismissed: Writing. Putting your feelings down on paper not only enables you to begin unloading your emotional baggage, it also allows you to process the situation so that perhaps you may a) gain objectivity, b) understand the other person's point of view, and more importantly c) be free to move on with the more important and pleasant things in life. Plus, if you do this regularly in the form of a journal it makes a fascinating read many years later.

If you are musically talented, another powerful way to vent is through songwriting. Not only is it a release, it is a way to take that negative energy and be creative with it positively. The song may be dark in subject or it may have some explicit lyrics but you will have fun putting it together and feel empowered every time you perform it or listen to the recording. Sometimes it may be a song that no one else will hear, but that is fine. It would have served its purpose.

When you let go of the hurt or anger or frustration within and are no longer carrying the weight of the world on your shoulders, you will feel much happier with life. Your smile will generate opportunities and with the bad experiences behind you, you can also begin to help other people.

The Worst Things You Can Do While Pregnant - Your Diet

By Marco Fratelli

If you are pregnant or know someone that is, you must read this article now! It is very important to be aware of the things you should not do during your pregnancy so that you can protect your unborn child and avoid birth defects or a potential miscarriage. Here are some of the worst things you can consume while pregnant:

1) Cigarettes - Apart from smoking being a very unhealthy habit, smoking while pregnant affects your unborn baby in a number of ways. The carbon monoxide from cigarette smoke has been known to attach to the red blood cells, reducing their oxygen carrying ability and depriving the fetus of the necessary oxygen it needs to develop. Smoking has also been linked to under weight babies and a significantly increased risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS).

2) Illicit drugs - A famous effect of drug use during pregnancy is the thalidomide children born without arms in the late 1950s. It is not known what effects or birth defects drugs may have on a fetus, if not miscarriage. It is important to check with your doctor before taking any drugs while you are pregnant, including over-the-counter medications. (Note that a healthy fetus is considered a "person" under some jurisdictions and women who take illegal drugs while pregnant could be charged with "abuse".)

3) Alcohol - When you have alcohol, so does your baby. Some studies show that alcohol can damage or affect the growth of cells in the fetus, especially brain and spinal cord cells. It is not known whether drinking a small amount of alcohol is safe or not for a pregnant woman, so it is best to avoid this at all costs.

4) Deli & Junk Foods, Raw Fish & Soft Cheeses - Junk food basically fills you up, satisfying you in the short term while providing you with very little nutritional benefits. Deli foods are generally prepared early in the day and remain outside on display for much of the morning making the food are perfect breeding ground for listeria. Raw fish and soft cheeses are in the same boat. Listeria is a disease which is bad for both mother and baby. It is passed down to the baby through the umbilical cord and the baby can contract respiratory problems or meningitis. Make sure the food you eat is cooked and hot. Food stored outside or even in the fridge longer than 12 hours is not recommended to be eaten. Practice good hygiene in the kitchen and wash all raw fruits and vegetables.

5) Insufficient folic acid - Folic acid is extremely important in the early stages of pregnancy for the development of the baby's spinal cord and prevention of spina bifida. It aids with cellular regeneration and development, in adults as well as babies. In fact, it is also thought to reduce the risk of Alzheimer's Disease and Cervical Cancer. Many breakfast cereals contain folic acid as well as leafy green vegetables and orange juice.

6) Insufficient calcium - if your baby doesn't calcium from your diet, it will take it from your bones. Pregnancy is a time when the body needs an increased amount of calcium, especially as you begin to produce milk in preparation for breastfeeding. Ask your doctor about the amount of calcium you require. Supplements may be required if you are not getting enough from your diet which should include low-fat dairy products and broccoli.

7) Parsley / Celery - Some women are told to stay clear of parsley and celery while pregnant. Both are sometimes used to aid in menstruation and therefore can cause contractions of the uterus and premature labor or abortion.

As soon as you find out you are pregnant, you should visit a health care professional to discuss a diet that suits you individually. This will be based on your current diet and family history to ensure you provide the best possible protection to your baby.

Tips to Minimize Pregnancy Stretch Marks on Your Skin

By Monica Nelson Platinum Quality Author

Tips to Minimize Pregnancy Stretch Marks

Stretch marks are actually the trophies of motherhood. However many moms would be happier to have their tight, flat tummy back again. Stretch marks occur after pregnancy because the skin around pregnant women's bellies and hips gets stretched taut with a growing baby, only to loosen and contract when the baby is born. After birth, stretch marks can appear on a woman’s stomach or breasts.

Human skin is quite elastic, but when it is stretched so far, the effects of skin proteins may be hampered. One such protein is collagen, a major protein that gives skin its elastic qualities. Some pregnant women rub skin creams on their bellies during pregnancy in hopes of helping the skin stay elastic. Doctors say this might not make a big difference but if it is soothing for an expectant mom to rub her belly then it might be worth it just for that reason.

Thankfully, stretch marks do not last forever. Young skin can produce collagen easily, so that stretch marks may fade, and might not be too noticeable after some time. However, if you are planning to wear a skimpy bathing suit, or if you want to show off your taut belly, then you might want to consider hiding, if not totally eliminating stretch marks. This can be difficult, but it is not entirely impossible, especially if you are devoted to caring for your skin.

One tip involves evening-out your overall pigmentation so that stretch marks are camouflaged. Some people do this by going to the beach and getting some sun, while others go to a tanning salon and spend time on a tanning bed. However, a better way might be to use tanning treatments that you can buy over the counter at your pharmacy, such as spray-on tans or lotions. Such lotions can keep you away from the potential dangers of overexposure to the sun’s ultraviolet rays.

Related to this tip of concealment is the use of body makeup. You may not be able to eliminate stretch marks completely, but you can keep them concealed while they’re healing. Look for body makeup that not only matches your skin tone, but is water-resistant as well. This can be advantageous if you will be swimming during your day out in your bathing suit.

Another related tip is fashion. You do not need to wear a bikini on the beach. You can wear a fashionable one piece swimsuit which hides your tummy skin, and you can have fun while not having to worry about how you look.

A second tip on eliminating stretch marks involves preventing them from happening. Keep the skin in your hips and buttocks moisturized regularly by dabbing them with body cream containing essential oils. The oils can loosen your skin and add more moisture to it, and can even help to minimize stretch marks.

The third and last tip on minimizing stretch marks involves medical care and consultation with your dermatologist. There are many skin products and creams available that promise to help smooth stretch marks, but many of these are inefficient, if not altogether ineffective, and many of them are also expensive. Truly minimizing stretch marks requires that you visit a dermatologist who can accurately gauge the state of your skin, and what you can do to smooth the stretch marks away.

There are many different treatments available for helping to clear up stretch marks. One of the latest high tech methods is laser treatment, which involves running the surface of the skin over with a beam of light at a certain frequency. Another method is microdermabrasion, which uses minuscule instruments to soften and smooth the skin, and is also used to smooth out cellulite.

Whatever your situation may be regarding stretch marks, always talk to your physician about it.

Early Symptoms of Ovarain Cancer

By Keith Bronson

Experts believe ovarian cancer symptoms are rarely exhibited early at the most treatable of stages, when the survival rate is as high as 95 percent. A recent study has concluded that the majority of women with early stage ovarian cancer, 89 percent of the woman feel that they have experienced abdominal or gastrointestinal symptoms prior to their doctors diagnosis.

The causes of ovarian cancer are unclear, but genetic and endocrine factors raise the risk. The most significant link is a positive family history, which is present in 10% of women with the disease. Three hereditary syndromes in which ovarian cancer occurs more commonly affect certain families with a history of early breast and ovarian malignancies and hereditary nonpolyposis colorectal cancer.

These ovarian cancer warning signs are often non-specific, the most common sign is abdominal pain but only 50 percent of woman with ovarian cancer present this.

Combination of the following symptoms and signs may suggest ovarian cancer and should prompt pelvic examination and urgent pelvic ultrasound:

* Pain

* Swollen abdomen

* Palpable mass

* Change in bowel or bladder function

* Back pain

* Loss of appetite and weight loss

* Post-menopausal bleeding

Five Questions to ask yourself:

Do you have a family history of breast or ovarian cancer?

Only 10 percent of ovarian cancers are caused by an inherited genetic mutation, but first degree relatives with breast or ovarian cancer will increase an individuals risk of the diasease.

Are you still having periods?

Ultrasound scans and Ca125 blood tests must be interpreted with the knowledge of a woman's menopausal status. Bleeding after the menopause will have a malignant cause in about 10 percent of cases. Exclude endometrial, cervical, vaginal or ovarian malignancy.

Are you urinating more frequently?

An enlarging ovary may press on the bladder. This may happen when the disease is confined to the ovary -stage one. When signs such as abdominal swelling occur, it generally represents stage three ovarian cancer

Have you had a change in bowel habit?

This may be due to an ovarian mass.

Are you suffering from vomiting, nausea or weight loss?

Once ovarian cancer has spread to the abdomen, an omental cake often forms which presses on the stomach.

The risk of ovarian cancer can create a sense of doom and family members may feel like they're sitting on a time bomb. Encourage them to express their fears and help ease their anxieties by clarifying misconceptions. Teach them to tune into their bodies and investigate any signs and symptoms, however minor. They can also live healthier. Encourage them to follow a low-fat diet and to avoid exposure to talc, asbestos, and other potential carcinogens. There's no conclusive evidence that these precoutions can prevent ovarian cancer. But they can't hurt either.

There are a few steps that you can take to reduce the risk of ovarian cancer. Oral contraceptives taken in combination for a period longer than five years could reduce your risk. Hysterectomy surgery or a tubal ligation may also be protective. And breast feeding and pregnancy are known to provide some protection. Women who tend to use powder should mainly use cornstarch based products.

An avid promoter of womans health issues, Keith Bronson prides himself on educating woman on the signs and symptoms of ovarian cancer. For more ovarian cancer information visit http://www.cancer-disease-symptoms.org/

How To Choose The Best Vitamins For Women's Health

By R. Sharp

It's true that women need vitamins that are different from what men need. This is what makes choosing the right vitamins for women's health a very specific task. Women's special needs for vitamins have spawned a whole market specifically to cater to this segment. To figure out just what these needs are, read on.

Women need specific vitamins because at different stages of their lives, their bodies experience many drastic physiological changes that men don't experience. This means that their need for a good and nutritious diet and supplementation are basic to their good health.

Some of the body changes that women experience which may require choosing the right vitamins for women's health are discussed below:

PMS

When women go through PMS, they may experience mood swings, bloating, and irritability. At such a time, choosing the right vitamins for women's health is crucial. This is when she needs Vitamin B-6 in doses of about 50-100 mg which helps to keep both the depression and nausea at bay. Vitamin B-6 also helps if women experience memory loss, and heart disease, by producing hormones and brain chemicals that help strengthen their immunity.

Pregnancy

If women have upset stomachs due to pregnancy, they can take Vitamin B6 which helps with nausea. Many women and doctors have discovered that turning to this vitamin is oftentimes the only thing that helps morning sickness. Women can also take Folic Acid when pregnant, which prevents neural tube deficits.

Pregnant women can benefit greatly from taking cod liver oil, which is a great source of Vitamins A, D and K, and Vitamin B2 or Riboflavin. These nutrients found in cod liver oil can guard against preeclampsia, which can be fatal for both new mothers and their babies.

Breastfeeding

Once women have given birth, it's time to breastfeed their newborns. But though mother's milk is filled with an abundance of nutrition, it has been found to be deficient in Vitamin D. However, this can be offset by the mother taking cod liver oil during her pregnancy.

This helps in the baby's brain development and provides sufficient doses of Vitamin K which assists in bone-building. At this time too, consuming the proper nutrients for women's health is absolutely critical since women now have the baby's health and development to worry about.

Menopause

As women get older and reach menopause, they need to be particular of their vitamin intake. Here, again, choosing the right vitamin for women's health involves taking additional nutrients such as Vitamin E. As an a antioxidant, Vitamin E counteracts the effects of DNA damage which can cause cells to age and guards against heart disease, cancer, memory loss, cataracts, and also improves immunity.

A Look At Why Women Experience Low Sex Drive

By R. Sharp

There are a number of reasons why many women experience low sex drive. Low sex drive can be brought on by many physical problems. The most severe medical issues related to low sex drive are disorders that affect the neural (nervous) system or cause nerve damage, such as Diabetes, Multiple Sclorosis, Parkinson's Disease, and stroke.

If you have poor circulation, blood won't flow properly to the genetalia, and will not only make arousal more difficult, but can inhibit your natural lubrication, making intercourse painful and unpleasant. This can also happen as a result of Urinary Tract Infections (UTI), STD's, and liver disorders. Alcohol can aggravate these conditions, increasing with age, as can smoking.

Hormones play an important part in sexual interest, and any type of hormonal imbalance will also affect sex drive. Women who are nearing or experiencing menopause, are pregnant or postnatal, or who have had a full or partial hysterectomy, may experience low sex drive, as a result of fluctuating levels of the hormones estrogen and prolactin.

Certain medications, including birth control pills, blood-pressure pills, and anti-depressants, can cause hormonal imbalance and low libido as well. Androgens, such as testosterone, decline in women with age, but there is still much debate about whether or not low levels of testosterone have anything to do with a decrease in libido and treating a woman who is experiencing low libido with testosterone can prove effective for some.

Excess weight and inactivity are other common causes of lessened sexual desire. Being overweight contributes to many physical and mental issues, including fatigue, depression, insecurity, and more importantly, high cholesterol, breathing difficulties, and heart strain.

Any of these, alone or combined, can have a major negative impact on sex drive. Exercising often, even if it's only a 20 minute walk every other day, can greatly improve your overall sense of well-being, and libido.

For some women, low sex drive stems from a psychological or emotional issue. The most common complaint is stress. Since women are emotional creatures, stressful situations can and often do affect every aspect of our lives. Marital or relationship problems, financial struggles, life crisis, anxiety, problems at work, excess weight, religious repression, guilt - there are endless factors that can cause stress and, in turn, a decline in sexual interest.

For a much more detailed explanation which takes you step by step into the causes of low sex drive in women and an in-depth look into some of the best vitamins and herbs for low sex drive in women, please see: http://www.womans-health.net/low_sex_drive.htm.

While there are several medical options that help improve low sex drive, you may only need to look as close as your personal habits and your kitchen.

Aside from frequent exercise, there are many foods and spices that will not only make you healthier, but will make you feel better, improve your mood, and raise libido. Remember: anything that is good for your overall health is good for your sex drive as well.

A low-fat, well balanced diet, including things like cold water fish, such as salmon, a lot of vegetables, and avoiding high-sugar, starchy foods, junk foods, and sodas, is a great place to start. Spices such as cumin, cayenne, and curry warm your body, and will also act as a kind of aphrodisiac. So, try putting a new spin on the term "romantic dinner," and see what you can cook up, both in - and out - of the kitchen.

Easy Bun Workouts for the Couch Potato

By R. Sharp

You don't want to miss the next episode of Law and Order, or House, or South Park. Understood. But you also don't want a rear end the size of Alaska. So, what's a girl to do?

Unlike the breasts, which are made primarily of fat, the buttocks are made primarily of three muscles - the gluteus maximus (largest), the gluteus medius, and the gluteus minimus. Muscles respond well to toning exercises, so if you follow a bun workout program, you'll soon have a firm, shapely bun. And when are you supposed to find time for this kind of exercise, you ask? Well, rather than skipping commercials, why not use each commercial break to do a different bun workout? You won't miss a minute of your television programs, but by the end of the episode, you'll have had a good bun workout.

What exercises can you do? Here are a couple easy bun workouts that you can do to get you in shape fast:

Bun Workout #1: Lift and Balance

Start out on your hands and knees. Stretch your right leg out behind you, keeping your toes on the floor. While squeezing your buns together, raise your right leg to hip level.

Hold for five seconds. Then return to starting position and repeat with the left leg.

Bun Workout #2: Stairs

Yep, just walking up and down a set of stairs can be a great bun workout. If you live in a two-story home or if your home has a basement, you can walk up and down the stairs and it won't cost you a thing. If your home does not have a set of stairs anywhere, you may want to invest in an exercise bench. If you're using a bench, step up with your right foot, draw your left foot up onto the bench beside your right foot. Step back with the right foot, and so forth.

You don't have to be a hardcore exercise fanatic who works out for hours every day to have firm buns. A few minutes of your television time will do quite nicely.

Mammograms

By Je Dunn

A Mammogram is a simple test that just may save your life.

The biggest key to beating any form of cancer is early detection. When it comes to breast cancer your best weapon is a routine test called a Mammogram.

A Mammogram is an X-ray of the breast. During this procedure the breast may need to be compressed to obtain the most accurate picture. Yes you may experience some discomfort but it will only be temporary.

Some women have expressed concern about mammograms because of being exposed to radiation, but the amount of radiation used for this test is very low administered at a very safe level.

At What Age Should Women Start Getting Mammograms?

The American Cancer Society recommends that all women over the age of 50 should start to have annual mammograms. Women from ages 40 to 50 should get tested every two years. Talk with your doctor for advice that is specified for your medical history.

What Helps Prevent Breast Cancer?

Research has discovered that regular exercise throughout your lifetime can help reduce a women’s risk of not just breast cancer but many other health related issues as well.

How Much Exercise?

Studies suggest that women age 40 and younger that exercise on average about four times per week can cut their risk by 50% when compared to women that rarely exercise.

Some other things that you can do that will help are…

1. Reduce your alcohol consumption.

2. Eat plenty of whole grain foods, vegetables and fruits.

3. Keep your weight down.

4. Exercise.

It is important for women to pay close attention to the amount of alcohol they consume. There is mounting evidence that there is a definite link between alcohol and an increased risk of breast
cancer.

The belief is that alcohol increases the amount of estrogen in a woman’s body and experts believe that high estrogen levels feed breast cancer.

Remember the old saying “An Ounce of Prevention is Worth a Pound of Cure?” Well a simple Mammogram is one of the best a woman can do for herself.

Prior to a workout, make sure to stretch your major muscles.

Work your muscles on the front of your thighs. Stretch your shoulder muscles by standing straight and rolling the shoulders backward in a circular motion. And of course, don’t forget to observe proper nutrition. Load up on water to prevent dehydration. Consume carbohydrates before starting on your work-out.

For those with joint and bone diseases, swimming may prove to be a less stressful activity for your muscles.

For example, if you like to play tennis, there are quite a lot of tennis schools available that can teach you how to play. You can even include your family in this fun activity and all of you can have fun while at the same time, promote fitness.

If you are not sports minded or you can't think of any sport that can be fun for you, you can also consider dancing as a great fitness workout experience. You can try and enroll in dance classes. Although some people think that dancing is easy, you have to consider that it's not.

Dancing is quite difficult and can be very stressful for your body as it will require you to run, walk, and jump around in the dance floor to do those dance moves. Dancing can definitely be a great fitness workout alternative if you find regular gym workouts boring. Plus, dancing is also fun especially if both you and your significant other enroll in the same classes.

These are just some of the examples that can make fitness workouts more fun and more enjoyable. There are still quite a lot of activities out there that you can do for fun and at the same time, give yourself a great quality workout. How To Deal With Bad Circulation During Pregnancy

By R. Sharp

The circulatory system undergoes several changes during pregnancy. One of the most frequently-encountered problems which women face during the second and third trimesters is bad circulation in pregnancy, particularly leg cramps. This sudden stiffening of the leg muscles can sometimes be very painful. The reasons for developing such cramps during pregnancy are not clear; however changes in blood circulation during pregnancy, the stress on the leg muscles caused by carrying the extra weight of the baby are cited as probable factors contributing to the cramps.

While bad circulation in pregnancy does not pose a threat, if it is accompanied by redness, swelling or a warm feeling, you should consult your doctor. There are very simple exercises which could help you prevent leg cramps during pregnancy. Stretching your legs before you go to sleep could help in the reduction of stress on your leg muscles. When you straighten your legs, you must stretch your heels first and do some circular motions with your toes, clock and anti clock-wise. While doing the exercises, avoid pointing your toes.

The other thing you need to avoid is to remaining one position, standing or sitting, for a long period of time. Being in one position would restrict the blood flow and can cause circulatory problems. During pregnancy, some simple but effective exercises like walking promotes blood circulation. Leg cramps can also be treated with gentle massage or application of a warm towel round the legs

It is not uncommon to feel a bit light-headed during pregnancy. This is due to the fact that during this period, the cardiovascular system can undergo some very quick changes, with heart rate going up and the heart pumping more blood per minute. Even the quantum of blood in your body increases by 40 to 45%. During normal pregnancy, you would experience a reduction in blood pressure during the early stages. This reaches its lowest point some time in the middle of pregnancy and then starts to rise till it reaches normal level at the end of pregnancy. While the cardiovascular and the nervous system can handle these changes, at times it fails to do so and it can result in a feeling of dizzy and light-headed. So long as you do not faint as a result of this light-headedness there is no cause for worry. You just have to lie down so that you do not fall down and hurt yourself. If you are in a place where lying down is not possible, you could sit down for some time and try to put your head between your knees.

One of the ways you could prevent this feeling of light-headedness during pregnancy is to always try to lie down on your left, as then it is easy for the blood to flow to your heart and the brain. Here is some more information on the causes of light-headedness during pregnancy and how you can prevent them:

Never change your body position too fast. For instance, if you are lying down, do not get up too fast and if you are sitting, do not stand up with a jerk.

When you are stationary in one position, keep on twirling your legs from one position to the other. This will promote circulation.

Avoid lying down on your back during the second and third semesters. This affects the blood circulation negatively. Your heart rate will increase, blood pressure may drop and you may feel light-headed, dizzy or nausea. Instead it is safer to lie on your side than flat on the back.

Drink enough fluids and eat properly. When you do not eat well, your blood sugar level drops and result in your feeling dizzy and uneasy. If you do not feel like eating at the right time, keep on having small quantities of food at regular intervals.

Iron deficiency anemia is responsible for having fewer amounts of blood cells to carry the oxygen to your brain. Make your diet iron-rich so that you have enough blood to feed your heart and brain.

WARNING: Do you or someone you know suffer from cramping in the legs/buttocks, swelling of the legs, tingling or loss of feeling in the legs, arms or feet? Boning Up On Calcium

By Sandra Clair

Calcium is a mineral that many healthy women don’t get enough of. The National Institute of Health recommends that an adult female consume 1000-1200 mg of calcium daily in their diet. This number is further increased to 1200-1500 mg of Calcium for peri-menopausal and menopausal women. Numerous women know they need calcium but are either not sure about the amount they should take, or they think they are getting enough but are not.

What Are The Functions Of Calcium?

Calcium has always been a mineral of importance to the human body’s growth and function.

One of the main functions of calcium in the body is its role in the formation of healthy bones and teeth. Over 90% of the calcium in the body, is stored in the bones. If the body’s calcium levels become too low, this calcium is taken from the bone and released into the bloodstream.

Another important function of calcium is the role it plays in blood clotting. It is an important mineral that is needed to stop continuous bleeding after minor cuts and injuries.

Calcium also plays a role in blood pressure. Some studies have shown that adequate calcium levels can help women lower or maintain their blood pressure.

Another reason why we need calcium is due to its role in maintaining a healthy heart. Calcium is necessary for the proper contraction of the heart. So for the heart to contract and beat properly, it must have enough calcium.

Calcium also plays a part in blood cholesterol. Previous studies have pointed to the importance of calcium lowering ‘LDL’ cholesterol and increasing ‘HDL’ cholesterol, which is better for the body.

Lastly, calcium seems to have a role to play in easing the symptoms of premenstrual syndrome (PMS) in some women.. Previous studies have shown that women taking the recommended daily allowance of calcium had fewer symptoms of PMS than women who were not getting enough calcium.

What Happens When We Lack Calcium?

The lack of enough calcium in the body can have severe results. Hypocalcemia is the medical condition for low blood calcium. The symptoms of Hypocalcemia involves spasms of the hands and feet, and a tingling feeling in the tongue, face, hands and feet. There are also muscle aches and pains as well.

The other consequences of taking inadequate calcium in the diet involves problems with the bones and teeth. As the blood levels of calcium drops, the bones release their stored calcium. If the stored loads are not replaced, eventually softening of the bones, bone loss, and tooth decay will result. This condition is known as rickets in children, or osteoporosis in adults.

Another think that might result with a lack of enough calcium in the diet, is a decrease in blood clotting. With these reduced levels, the body’s clotting system is not able to function effectively. This will result in women bleeding more than usual, for example, after a minor injury.

Because of calcium’s role in the function of the heart, blood pressure, and cholesterol, decreased calcium levels could cause the body to have reduce heart contraction, a higher blood pressure, and a higher cholesterol level. Thus the body’s cardiovascular system is not able to function properly.

As stated properly, calcium is quite useful in decreasing premenstrual syndrome. Such a decrease in the level of blood calcium might cause an increase in the headaches, bloating, and cramps that is associated with a menstrual period.

What Are The Various Sources of Calcium?

To protect yourself from these problems, it is necessary to eat or take enough calcium in the diet. Some women prefer to take a supplement. However, there are many natural and healthy foods available which are excellent sources of calcium. Dairy products provide calcium in the form of yogurt, milk, and cheese. A number of these products are also fortified with Vitamin D as well. Other sources of calcium include leafy green vegetables such as broccoli, kale, and bok choy. Calcium can also be found in almonds, beans, and certain seafood.

Therefore, it can be seen that getting enough calcium in the diet is highly recommended because of the many different functions and harmful effects of not getting enough of this mineral.

I Dated a Dangerous Man

By Rachel Goodchild

Angela* wishes she spotted the danger signs a little earlier. One marriage, two kids and a divorce later, she knows she dated and married a dangerous man. “Mathew was always comparing me unfavourably with his mother. He got cross if I spent money on myself, and he talked a lot about what type of woman turned him on- and it wasn’t me.”

Angela and Mathew went to counselling, and tried to work it out but now have divorced. After dating several other types of dangerous men including the predator and the hidden lifer, Angela is now taking time out to get her warning system working. “No more dangerous men!”

Sandra Brown, a therapist and author of How To Spot a Dangerous Man (Hunter House) says Mathew is a classic Parental Seeker, one of eight dangerous men types she says woman should steer clear of. Angela agrees. She says “The moment the marriage broke up he moved in back with his mother who takes care of him completely. Does all his washing and cooks his carrots just the way he likes them” Parental Seekers want a parent, not a partner, and attract women who are maternal and enjoy caring for others. However they can become restrictive and controlling, and often lose interest in sex once the relationship becomes more permanent. The woman can suffer from verbal abuse on a regular basis. “I spent all my time thinking I was ugly and useless. It has taken me a long time to get over the damage he inflicted on me”

What is a dangerous man?

Yes he can be violent. But Sandra Brown says there are other types that can be just as damaging. In her book Sandra talks about eight different types that women should stay clear of. Basically, she says “A dangerous man is any man who harms a woman's emotional, physical, sexual, spiritual, or financial self.”

Sandra says all women are born with the ability to know how to a spot a dangerous man – but turn off their warning systems. The fight or flight system is woman’s dangerous man spotter. If you want to run, then do it!. Once you’ve dated a dangerous man, it is easier to do it again and it is harder to trust your own feelings.

How to spot a dangerous man.

If you can answer yes to any of these red flags, then according to Sandra, you may be dating a dangerous man. Her solution? RUN! A dangerous man will not get better.

1. Does he push for a more permanent relationship than you are ready for?

2. Does he show anger towards his mother?

3. Does his mother do a lot for him such as do all his washing or still make his lunch everyday?

4. Does he want you to focus only on him?

5. Does he encourage you to do things you feel uncomfortable doing, and go against your own principles?

6. Does he hold grudges after a fight?

7. Does he break promises?

8. Does he discourage you from going out with other friends?

9. Does he always have to win?

10. Is he unpredictable?

Can you spot the dangerous man?

Here are the eight types Sandra talks about in her book. Have you ever dated one of these?

• The Emotional Predator: This man know how to make women purr but when it comes to commitment can’t be trusted to stay put. Look out for the man with a pile of broken hearts behind him!

• The Permanent Clinger: He may shower you with flowers, but it can soon turn into demands of complete devotion. He’ll even get jealous if you cuddle up to the cat!

• The Hidden Lifer: It can be tricky to spot, but he might have all sorts of skeletons in his closet. You can clean it out by asking him lots of questions about his past. If he is open that’s great- otherwise BEWARE!

• The Violent: Hot and cold describe this man. Attentive and giving one day, blaming and shaming the next. It can all esculate to physical violence so get out before it does.

• The Mentally Ill: He may find it easy to hide this at first, but left untreated it is going to leave you feeling like something is not right at all.

• The Addicted: Fun may be his middle name but his love for sex, drugs and porn won’t make you feel that great. Watch for the need for speed, junk food munchies and alcohol. It all hurts in the end.

• The Parental Seeker wants a mother not a partner. He’ll check out how you keep the house, and while he’ll adore you, he takes more than he gives. You’ll be left feeling drained and worn out.

• The Emotionally Unavailable: He might say he is unhappy or almost over the last relationship but if he is still involved with someone else then stay clear. If he does it to her, he could do it to you!

Of course these dangerous signs may not come alone! The Combination Man is all too common. He has two or more of these types within him – and the more categories he has, the more dangerous he is.

Is your friend or daughter dating someone dangerous?

Sandra Brown suggests that if someone you know is dating a dangerous man you don’t confront them! You can ask them how they are feeling gently, and let them open up to you. Help them turn on their warning systems again by asking them how they feel when their partner treats them badly. Women always look for loopholes in men’s behaviour if they love him. If she says things like “It was only once” or “he is tired and stressed when he does that” then you know she needs help. Show her the red flags and help her get out.

How To Design A Home Body Detox Program That's Just Right For You

By R. Sharp

After reading about those expensive detoxification treatments and how they can cripple your wallet, wouldn't it be nice to know that there are affordable ways to detoxify you body in a home body detox program? Fear not, here are some easy and helpful detox programs you can follow at your own pace, in the comforts of your own home. All you need is a little discipline, resourcefulness, and a small budget, and you're on your way to a detoxified lifestyle.

First off, in your home body detox program you can detoxify your skin without having to purchase expensive cosmetics or going to a spa for a costly one-hour treatment. There are simple recipes you can do in your own kitchen out of ordinary household ingredients that can detoxify your skin. You can make a honey cleanser scrub by mixing together one tablespoon of honey with two tablespoons of ground almonds and half a teaspoon of lemon juice. Rub gently over your face and leave on for 20 minutes before washing off with warm water. This treatment helps smooth the skin by removing dead skin cells.

A dry skin mask of oatmeal and honey can also be applied on the face as a moisturizer and cleanser. You can also use a fruit mask to provide vitamins and cleansers for your skin. Take half an apple, which is peeled and sliced, and add a tablespoon of honey, one egg yolk, one teaspoon of ascorbic acid, some vinegar, and two tablespoons of oil. Place all the ingredients in a blender and homogenize until a smooth paste is obtained. You can apply this on your face and leave it to dry for about a half hour to an hour. Then you simply rinse off with warm water.

For your home body detox program, you'll also need to follow a few simple detox recipes for meals and drinks. A ginger tea with turmeric is great for the liver, and especially helpful in dissolving fats and releasing them from the body. Simply mix half a teaspoon of powdered ginger and half a teaspoon of turmeric powder in two cups of boiling water. Allow to simmer for ten minutes, then add maple syrup and lemon juice to taste.

Green tea has been known to contain antioxidants that help in clearing out toxins and harmful radicals in the body. You can also make a simple iced green tea detox drink that can be taken any time of the day. Place six green tea bags in a pitcher and add six cups of cold water. Thinly slice two pitted peaches, or mash them if you like. Add to the pitcher and mix well. You can sweeten the tea with maple syrup, but no sugar.

You can also opt to follow a juice fast program. This means that your diet will consist of juices made from fruits, vegetables, and other herbs. Your body systems will be flushed out of toxins, since you are introducing vitamins and minerals with no preservatives into your body. You need a good juicer and blender for this simple option. Doctors recommend leafy vegetables such as parsley, spinach, broccoli, dandelion leaves, and chard among others for juicing. Root products such as sweet potatoes, beets, and carrots are also recommended. For fruits, you should opt for citrus ones, such as grapefruit, lemons, oranges, and limes. Dark grapes and apples are great sources of antioxidants as well.

You can also add fennel, basil, spearmint, peppermint, garlic, ginger, and many more to your juices. There are several resources that provide the best combinations of vegetables or fruits for the best-tasting juices. Try to follow the juice fasting program for a few days, avoiding animal products such as meat and dairy. Do not use sugars and artificial sweeteners to add flavor to your drinks. You are free to drink as much water as you want, and make sure to dilute all your juices with copious amounts of water.

So how do you get started?

For those who lead very busy lifestyles, hitting the gym and starting on a regular fitness plan may seem the perfect way to keep fit. But for most, starting out on a regular walking exercise is the way to go. Start at a manageable rate. A 10 to 15 minute walk is a good way to start.

But the most important is, make time for your exercise. If you can’t hit the gym or start on a regular work-out plan, make sure that your day is filled with enough physical activity that keeps you going and always on the go. Women’s fitness is the key to your beauty!

When you ask someone to workout with you, you will usually hear the word "no". Besides, working out is boring. Maybe even you will consider that working out is boring and rather do fun things than spending time at the gym doing some boring workout routines.

However, you have to consider that more and more people are putting up with the boring workout routines because of the alarming increase of heart related diseases and obesity. You have to consider that you have to take care of your body in order to live a happier and more satisfying life.

You and only you are responsible for maintaining your body's health. This is why you have to do fitness workouts in order to keep your body in top working condition. Failing to do so will result in a disease-ridden life where you and your family will suffer.

So, while you are still not experiencing diseases because of being overweight, such as diabetes and heart diseases, you have to start doing fitness workout in order to keep your body healthy plus give you the benefit of having a great looking body that you can show off during summers at the beach.

However, if you find regular fitness workout routines very boring, there are quite a lot of fitness workouts that you can do to make workout more fun. There are fun activities that you can do where you can definitely enjoy and at the same time, give you a great quality fitness workout experience.

First of all, most people consider that fitness workouts are only limited at the gym. However, you have to consider thinking out of the box and start being creative. Active sports such as swimming, golf, tennis, football, and basketball are a fun sport that can give you great quality fitness workout experience.

There are belly dancing activities, there are hiking and camping activities, there are rock climbing activities and a lot more. All you need to do is find one that interests you and be creative.

Why Most People Fail at Losing Weight - Your Guide to Success

By Marco Fratelli

Famous self help guru Anthony Robbins once explained that people make decisions based on two criteria. 1) The need to avoid pain; and 2) The need to gain pleasure. If you think about the decisions you make every day, you will find that the need to avoid pain often dominates the decision making process over the need to gain pleasure. Using this explanation it is easy to see why most people fail at losing weight.

Weight loss is associated with the hard work of exercise, the personal sacrifice of certain foods and pain, pain, pain. It seems easier to just give up. It would not be unfair to say that most people are lazy when we are hearing in the media that two thirds of the adult population of the United States is overweight, if not obese. Understanding why most people fail at losing weight, we can very quickly see what we need to do to succeed.

1) Be committed. You have to really want to lose weight. You can change your mindset from associating losing weight with pain. Instead, link pain with heart disease and diabetes and having to live a life full of restrictions (you can't eat the foods you like) and medications, if not an early death.

2) Set realistic goals - If you set realistic goals, you are more likely to achieve them and more likely to stay committed because you are seeing the results. What often happens is that people don't even set goals, let alone unrealistic ones. They just go to the gym for the first couple of months and then find a reason not to continue.

3) Exercise - This could begin with regular walking, riding a bicycle to work or going to the gym. Make sure you listen to music or watch TV while you exercise. It helps with taking your mind away from the physical workout. A lot of gyms are now installing LCD screens that can be seen from all machines, if not attached to each individual machine!

4) Get a weight loss buddy - When there is commitment involved, it is often easier to have a friend that will go through it all with you (as long as they are equally committed). An alternative would be to join a gym class where a lot of people are doing the same exercises and you are motivated by an instructor. You can hide in the crowd. This will take away any fears of "being seen" or mentally criticized by other people while you are alone on a gym machine.

5) Don't starve yourself - make subtle changes to your diet initially. If you have a can of Coke every day, for example, switch to Diet Coke. Also try to eat smaller meals more frequently each day rather than "no breakfast, take away lunch and big dinner at home". You'll find that this regular intake of food will actually help with improving your metabolism and prevent the usual afternoon slump in the office.

Losing weight may be in some ways a short term pain but it will lead to a long term gain. For those dedicated few that follow the above principles, major improvements will not only be seen in health and fitness, it will be evident in all areas of life. As self image and therefore self esteem improves, your newfound health and confidence will begin to attract to you love, success and wealth.
